Angie Mrad, video

My first time interviewing someone in a war zone

This is my first time interviewing someone in a war zone. You’ll be able to tell that I got a bit tongue-tied and nervous at points. A few people have recently referred to me as a journalist, but I’m not! I’m a comedian! I have lots of experience interviewing people and I am extremely nosy, but I’m also not trained in any way and figuring this out as I go along. Anyway, with Angie, I avoid some of my usual silly questions, even though she was really fun and almost certainly would have answered. We mostly delve into the horrors of the war on her doorstep and what it’s like reporting from the border before heading home to her normal life. As usual, we recorded more than I could squeeze into the written version. Here are some highlights:

  • What Angie thinks will happen next with the war in Gaza

  • How we both handle wanting to cry while filming someone’s sad story. I share one of my experiences from Full Frontal with Samantha Bee

  • A story about how she was recently attacked by someone angry with journalists at the border with Syria

  • Concrete ways in which Angie enacts political change in Lebanon, even without voting
