Alex Friedman, video + audio

I had so much fun chatting to Alex this week. We have a lot in common, having both worked in late-night TV during the first Trump administration, which we get into more here.

Other highlights which I couldn’t squeeze into the written version:

  • Texting men in wine bars about the election. Not necessarily advisable.

  • Politicians and narcissists. Would there be any overlap on a Venn diagram?

  • Mass deportations in America v. welcoming white South African “refugees”.

  • Why the French are way better at political action than Americans (clue: it’s not why you think. Alex has a great theory I’d not heard of before).

  • What kind of protest actually cuts through, and why Alex’s seventy-something-year-old aunt rocks.

Anyone who’s been watching these videos for a while will know that I am absolutely terrible at filming. It’s not that I don’t try—you’d be shocked to hear how much time I spend setting up the shot—it’s just that I’m incompetent. In this week’s episode, Alex looks lovely and clear, as though filming from a fully functioning laptop in the year 2025. I, meanwhile, look like I’ve smeared vaseline over the lens of my camera, trying unsuccessfully to get that 1920s Old Hollywood look.

But let it go, guys! This is a conversation about politics, not ladies’ looks.

The audio version is below for all you ear-focused podcast freaks. It’s a paywall, but I’ve kept subscriptions low to make this as accessible as possible for everyone. And if you want to watch or listen but don’t feel like that’s financially viable for you right now, get in touch and I’ll gift you one. 🧡
